I don’t think it’s overstating things to suggest that Samuel L. Jackson has been as an essential part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Robert Downey Jr. Sure, he showed up for like 20 seconds at the end of Iron Man to tease the broader world the Marvel films were going to develop, and something called “The Avengers Initiative,” but it immediately got fans excited and it made regular audience members say, “What do you mean I have to stay till after the credits?” With appearances since in at least five other Marvel films and the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, the question then must be asked, how many films does Jackson have left on his contract? And he answers…
While talking to IGN, out promoting Kingsman: The Secret Service, Jackson gave us a number, and hint: it’s between one and three. “I’ve only got two more movies in my contract,” he said. “That might be the end of it unless I get an extension!”
If you watch the video below, you’ll note that Jackson isn’t bitter or bored sounding at the thought of make more Marvel movies. He’s also enthusiastic about the possibility of a Nick Fury solo movie. Now many of Jackson’s appearances in Marvel movies have qualified as cameos. Only Iron Man 2, The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have featured Jackson in an out-and-out, full supporting capacity, and presumably his appearances on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. don’t count either, so its possible that there could be years before Jackson’s contact is officially up. Theoretically.
Let’s watch Samuel L. Jackson speak for himself.
So let the guessing game begin, where might Nick Fury turn up after Age of Ultron? Captain America: Civil War? Black Panther? Spider-Man? Captain Marvel? Avengers: Infinity War? Feel free to play the game for yourself below.
