Nightcrawler fans rejoice! Word broke late last night and is making its way around the Internet today that Bryan Singer has cast a young Nightcrawler for X-Men: Apocalypse! Who did Singer cast and does this mean that Alan Cumming won’t be back as our favorite “BAMF”-ING mutant?

You might remember this scene from X-Men 2, it was the Quicksilver X-Men: Days of Future Past type scene of X-Men 2 and what most people talked about after they first saw it.

This time around Nightcrawler will be played by a much younger actor. Singer took to Instagram to post the casting news:

Excited to welcome @kodismitmcphee to the cast of #XmenApocalypse as young #Nightcrawler. @alexvaughanphoto

That’s Kodi Smit-McPhee, you’ve seen him in The Road, Let Me In, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He’s a nice addition to an already stellar cast. Now, he’ll be playing a younger Nightcrawler, so we might still see Alan Cumming as the older Nightcrawler as X-Men: Apocalypse does have its own time traveling component.

I’m hoping that we’ll see a lot of Nightcrawler this time around and not just one scene and out. I’d like to see the friendships building amongst the group as well as the fight scenes.

What do you think of this casting announcement?
