Consider this a non-surprising development, because the news has been more or less assumed a slam dunk for months now. However, because of the old adage that to assume makes an “ass” out of “u” and “me,” we’ve patiently waited for confirmation from someone in an official capacity, and with shooting expected to underway on Suicide Squad in the next couple of months, we need to know now: Who is “The Wall?” You can’t have the Suicide Squad without the terse and commanding Amanda Waller conducting things, and through all the news and speculation about the film version of the super-villain team, only one name has been floated really, and now, according to Viola Davis, the role is hers.
Fresh off her first season on the drama How to Get Away with Murder, where she plays a law professor with morally dubious and possibly homicidal tendencies, Davis stepped out onto the Academy Awards red carpet the other night. There she was accosted by Ben Mulroney, the empty suit host of the Canadian info-tainment program eTalk. Interesting sidenote: Mulroney is the son of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, so clearly no worry about being in his father’s shadow there, but I digress.
Anyway, Davis was asked about the rumors concerning her appearing in Squad as “The Wall,” and she did better than respond. She confirmed! Well, after her husband went and spoiled the surprise. Check out the eTalk Twitter feed:

Clearly, Mr. Davis (sorry I don’t know your name) is excited about seeing his wife boss around the Suicide Squad.
Davis will now join Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, and Jared Leto in Toronto later this spring when shooting on Suicide Squad begins. The film is currently scheduled for release next summer, August 5, 2016.
We’ll have more news as it develops.
