If you’ve ever wondered how many miticlorians there are in a Slayer, wonder no more! Disney announced today that they will be adding the voice acting talents of Sarah Michelle Gellar to the second season of their wildly successful animated TV series, Star Wars Rebels. The series takes place fourteen years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, five years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hopeand twelve years after the fall of Sunnydale. Wait, no, this isn’t a fan fiction mashup! This is real! Okay, inquiring minds want to know – Jedi or Sith?! Spoiler alert – read no further!
Ok yeah, we’ll have to wait a while to learn about the role SMG will be playing but she joins a cast that includes Taylor Gray, Vanessa Marshall, Tiya Sircar, Steven Blum and her husband, Freddie Prinze, Jr. In addition to this excellent collection of voice actors, the series brings in recurring roles from the likes of James Earl Jones, Anthony Daniels, Frank Oz, and Billy Dee Williams aka Darth Vader, C3PO, Yoda and Lando Calrissian – those names ring a bell…
If you haven’t seen the finale of Rebels season one, you should probably clean out that DVR. Big things were revealed, most notably that the character Fulcrum is actually Ahsoka Tano, who is working with various resistance cells to fight against the Galactic Empire. That’s right people; Anakin Skywalker’s former apprentice is operating in the Rebel Alliance! Fanboys everywhere squealed with Glee, a sound immediately replaced with terror as the Emperor assigns his new agent to deal with the rebel uprising: Darth Vader.
The sky is the limit (literally) for where they could place SMG, especially since other resistance cells were hinted by Ahsoka. Will Gellar play a character on the Ghost? Perhaps someone from Ezra’s past? Who can say, but if we see a scythe-shaped light saber somebody better tweet Mutant Enemy and demand an explanation!
Star Wars Rebels season two has no premiere date yet, but you can catch season one on Disney XD – check local listings for details!
