We’re all still coming to grips with the loss of Leonard Nimoy and people are celebrating his life and contributions in a number of ways. The day he passed away a number of fans and Star Trek Online players gathered on Vulcan to pay their respects. Cryptic Studios, the creative group behind Star Trek Online announced an in-game memorial and it went live today. The game designers have put up two memorial monuments, the first on Vulcan:
The second is on New Romulus with the inscription:
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Stephen Ricossa, Star Trek Online Executive Producer said:
Based on where our community chose to congregate and pay their respects, we will be replacing the central structure on the fountain on Vulcan with a stone statue of Spock with the inscription “Live Long and Prosper.
That symbol in the back is the Vulcan and Romulan IDIC symbol.
Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.
There will also be an In Memoriam Plaque at each location with other Star Trek Alum who have passed away.
In addition to the permanent memorials the designers are also hanging black flags of mourning in the game.
Through the next week we will also hang black flags of mourning in Earth Spacedock, Qo’noS, and New Romulus, so everyone that passes through those hubs will know we have lost someone important to us all.
It’s a nice touch and remembrance of Leonard Nimoy and the character he helped create. Other fans are celebrating his life in a number of ways. In Atlanta Ga. billboards were posted.
