The world is rife with super hero television shows these days. Just turn on pretty much any channel and you have something from Marvel or DC or some indie label that’s being cranked out in the name of ratings and money. Luckily, most of them have been pretty entertaining thus far, so we’re getting some quality shows. But here comes another that may or may not have the chutzpah to survive – Supergirl. And now we’ve got the first look at our heroine, Melissa Benoist, in the costume of the titular character. Scroll on to check it out.
Here’s a little taste of what Supergirl is going to look like once she flies onto the small screen:
Looking good, if I do say so myself. One can see the obvious influences on the costume design that come from Zach Snyder’s incarnation of the big-screen Superman. Plus the tights are a nice touch, since what super heroine really runs around fighting baddies in her underwear (skirt or no) without suffering some potentially serious crotch-wedgies? This costume also happens to have been designed by the same Oscar-winning, bad-ass designer that did the outfits for The Flash and Arrow – Colleen Atwood. IMO, they need to put this woman in charge of ALL the costumes.
So far, no word on when Supergirl will be premiering. We do know that the pilot began shooting this week, so it’s on its way.
And, for those unfamiliar, here’s a brief synopsis for the new show:
Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was destined to be.
