So here’s the thing. Ha! I always wanted to use that pun when referring to the walking ton of bricks from The Fantastic Four. Seriously, though, here’s The Thing. An International Billboard promoting Josh Trank‘s vision for The Fantastic Four gives us our first solid (excuse the pun) of Ben Grimm a.k.a The Thing.
Instagram user “albertoheineken26” saw the billboard and snapped a photo of him standing in front of it:
So…there you have it: the dramatic reveal of The Thing. On a billboard. Not exactly an breath taking reveal or anything, but this is certainly a new look for the character.
This Thing is certainly more rigid and has more mass than the suit Michael Chiklis wore in those other Fantastic Four movies from FOX.
Honestly, IMO, the best live-action interpretation of The Thing was from that 1990’s Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie that was never intended to see the light of day (it had only been made so studio could hold onto the film rights). That body suit/design looked most like the comic.
But this isn’t the comic. This is Josh Trank’s vision. A dark and gritty imagining that’s in relation to the source material in name only.
Not understanding that the Fantastic Four is about family and telling human stories in a fantastic world is a grievance for another time. For now, the question is, does this Thing scream “it’s clobbering time” to you? What do you think?
FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
Fantastic Four hits theaters on August 7th, 2015.
