Yes, America – our Disney overlords are at it again! First they saved comic book adaptations with the purchase of Marvel, then they literally bought your childhood when they purchased Star Wars, and now they delve deep into the hearts of youngsters as they plan a Winnie-the-Pooh live-action adaptation! Will Winnie, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Rabbit, Roo, Owl and Kanga team up against all odds to save New York from an alien invasion? Will we watch as Christopher Robin struggles with the temptations of the dark side of the force? Find out after the jump!
While it’s too early for all the plot details, we do know that the A.A. Milne adaptation will begin with Christopher Robin, fully grown, and returning to Hundred Acre Wood. Earlier today Deadline broke the news that Alex Ross Perry, writer and director of the critically acclaimed film Listen Up Phillip would be brought on to direct. This is excellent news for indie film fans everywhere, as Listen Up Phillip, while quirky and off-beat, was one of the better films of the past year.
If you have children, or nieces and nephews, you’re no stranger to the abilities of Winnie and his pals. We have seen crying children skillfully subdued by his masterful powers of domination. Babies quelled within moments of his presence. Some of us were even thinking Winnie might have been one of the All New, All Different Avengers! That of course didn’t pan out how we thought, but hey – Nova is cool, too!
Perry took to Twitter to deny rumors that this was an April Fool’s Day joke:
Whether we get a gritty realistic reboot, a slightly demonic twist or a family-friendly romp remains to be seen. Personally, we’d be fine with all of the above. No release date has been set.
