If you are old enough to remember the Mighty Ducks movies or have parents cool enough to have shared them with you, you remember just how wonderful the first two movies of the franchise really were. The morals of acceptance and perseverance in the face of adversity that ran throughout the series are timeless lessons that still have a positive influence on many fans of the films. Every few years, talk of a new entry in the franchise start-up and earlier this year, there was some chatter that the Ducks could indeed be making their way back to the big screen. One of the questions that many fans always have is “How much of the original cast would return?” Well, we had a chance to ask one of everyone’s favorite Ducks, Elden Henson, and it turns out, if the Flying V ever shines again, he is on board.
At a recent press junket for Netflix’s original series, Marvel’s Daredevil, NerdBastards had the chance to ask Henson about those pesky rumors and we actually got an answer that was a bit surprising:
NB: Elden, every few years, talks of a new Mighty Ducks movie starts up again. Would that ever be something you would consider revisiting or have you pretty much put the character behind you?
Elden: Yeah, absolutely! You know, it’s funny. We just had a reunion not too long ago. A bunch of us got together at [Mighty Ducks producer] Jordan Kerner’s house and it was really nice to see all of them. Those movies really sort of started my career; I was able to get into doors that I couldn’t get through before. For that reason alone, I would always revisit [the character], you know what I mean? It’s just so special to me and it’s given me such a wonderful career and life.
Now, it should be mentioned that many interviewees occasionally do play up to the press and try to give them what they want to hear. That being said, Henson’s reaction went well beyond words – his answer was all over his face in the form of a nostalgic smile and laugh. Henson is one of the most down to Earth guys in Hollywood and his response is a simple testament to that fact. So, while we may not be right around the corner from a new Mighty Ducks movie, it is a bit reassuring to know that if Disney gives Elden a call to reprise his role, he will not be dodging those calls.
After a less-than-stellar third entry in the franchise, a movie that Ducks star Emilio Estevez was famously so disappointed in that he all but retired from acting, the series was laid to rest, apart from an animated series that used the same name but had only hockey in common with the movies. The first two entries, however, promoted family and friendship and, really, can that ever go out of style?
You can see Henson in Marvel’s Daredevil, exclusively on Netflix, beginning April 10. If you haven’t had a chance yet, check out our spoiler free review!
