David Green‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 has been doing some interesting casting of late, bringing in Stephen Amell to play Casey Jones and Tyler Perry to play Baxter Stockman. The latest casting news from the production is the replacement of Tohoru Masamune who played Shredder in the reboot with Brian Tee (The Wolverine).
Was this simply a matter of scheduling conflicts that couldn’t be overcome or was Masamune tired of the role? There’s no official word out on the why yet, but I expect someone’s people will be getting with someone else’s people and we’ll end up hearing why soon. Both actors are very talented and can deliver a solid Shredder performance on the big screen.
The first made way too much money for there to be any hope that this latest goofy TMNT reboot might die a quick death. Turtle fans will have to suffer through a few more of these. Although it is the highest grossing movie in Nickelodeon‘s history, it was also nominated for five Golden Raspberry Awards last year:
Rip-off or Sequel
Worst Supporting Actress
Megan Fox won the Razzie for Worst Supporting Actress. Hopefully the second time around might not be so painful.
TMNT 2 hits theater screens June 3rd, 2016.
