Hot on the heels of the announcement of the casting of Martin Freeman comes more casting news. Fans who wondered what Emily VanCamp would be doing with her free time once Revenge ends its final season on ABC can sleep well tonight as VanCamp is confirmed to reprise her role as Agent 13  Sharon Carter in Captain America: Civil War. hayley-atwell-as-peggy-carter-567x2921-ranking-marvel-s-female-characters-jpeg-165473

Sharon Carter in the comics is the niece of Peggy Carter, Cap’s love interest during World War II and the lady that helped found S.H.I.E.L.D. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe though, She is only known as Agent 13. She was assigned to live next door to Steve Rogers and protect/keep tabs on him for S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury. Everyone, and I mean everyone is banking on her being Sharon Carter, Captain America’s love interest in the modern-day.

When we last saw Agent 13, S.H.I.E.L.D. had collapsed after the revelation that Hydra had infiltrated its ranks since day one and after Carter helped stop Hydra, she joined the CIA. Now we’re going to enter some spoiler areas for some people so if you haven’t read the Civil War comics or want to know anything about what might happen in Captain America: Civil War…

OK, if you’re still here let’s talk about some of the things Agent 13 might do in the movie. When I first wrote about Martin Freeman’s casting in CA: CW and his attachment to the Black Panther film I thought he would make a great Henry Gyrich. Now that I remember Agent 13’s role in Civil War, I think Freeman might be playing a much meatier role than Gyrich. I am hoping he ends up playing:

Faustus-5741f

Doctor Faustus, the evil psychiatrist who can warps men and women’s minds with ease. In the Civil War storyline he brain washed Agent 13 into doing something, or at least appearing to do something that shocked the Marvel world, killing Captain America.

I feel that Freeman would make an excellent Faustus, twisting Agent 13’s love for Cap into the means to destroy Captain America. At the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Cap is seen rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D. and training agents. It isn’t hard to imagine Cap asking Agent 13 to return and help with that.

What do you think?
