‘X-Files’ Event Series Scheduled for January Launch

The X-Files is a series that thrives on mystery, but ever since a new iteration of the program was announced earlier this year, the big mystery has been when the new season will hit the airwaves. That is aside from the utterly vague “Coming Soon,” of course. Well, this is TV Upfronts week, the time of year when networks announce their slate of new shows for the next TV season and where and when those shows might be viewed. Monday, was Fox‘s turn to announce their fall schedule, and though The X-Files ain’t on it, there is now a release date for the new season. We just have to wait for the end of football season.

As revealed on The X-Files official Twitter feed, the Truth will be out there again this coming January.

More than that, The X-Files is being gifted with a huge lead in on January 24, the NFC Championship Game! Football is a ratings juggernaut for network television, and clearly Fox is banking on that bank to bring in big numbers for the new X-Files. The show will then debut in its regular time slot on Monday January 25 where it will air the next five episode of its run.

As for the season itself, whether it will be mythological-driven or be a series of standalone episodes, Fox TV chair Dana Walden said that the episodes will be “a mixture of standalones and deeper mythology.”

The new episodes of The X-Files are expected to begin shooting this summer with returning stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Other members of the recurring cast are also expected to return including Mitch Pileggi as Assistant Director Walter Skinner. Along with series creator Chris Carter Frank Spotnitz, Glen Morgan, James Wong and Darin Morgan are amongst the returning writers, and series composer Mark Snow will also be doing the music again.

We’ll have more X-Files news as soon as it comes across our desktops.
