Heads up Hologram fans, word on the street is that there’s a new Jem and the Holograms trailer trending online as we speak! Inquiring minds want to know! Is the music contagious, outrageous? Will it have glamour and glitter, fashion and fame? Follow us down the rabbit hole and find out after the jump.
The long and short by way of this trailer is that no, there will be no glamour, glitter, fashion or fame. There will be no Synergy, no holographic makeovers, no Misfits, no Stingers, no nothing! Jerrica Benton is not a music company owner who deals with the death of her father by becoming an anonymous pop icon. This time around she’s an orphan who gets discovered via an online recording session. That’s right America, she’s a tween from the burbs who literally can’t even.
There are however upshots! First, it features Molly Ringwald as Jerrica’s aunt. This was smart casting as anyone who actually remembers this TV show will also likely have a soft spot for Molly because of very good reasons. Also, this
steaming pile of makeup adaptation is being produced by the folks who brought you Pitch Perfect, which was surprise hit and has a sequel just days away from being released. Come on, you know Fat Amy was genius!
Regardless, we here at Nerd Bastards would like to apologize to your childhood and suggest you seek counseling, not unlike the help you sought during any of the four Transformers movies, or the GI Joe movies. If you feel the need to expand your Jem and the Holograms palet there are other takes on the well known syndicated behemouth, but be warned they aren’t for the faint of heart!
Jem and the Holograms, directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Ryan Landels will be released on October 23rd, 2015.
