legends-of-tomorrow

The final piece of Upfronts Weeks is revealed later today when the CW formally announces its schedule for the 2015/16 TV season, but as these things go, the schedule was unofficially released this morning. The good news is that the CW is in the enviable position of having so many successful shows that all but two of their series were renewed for the coming year. The bad news though is that the CW has only 10 hours of programming per week. So what does that mean? Surprisingly very little. With the exception of one big alteration, the new schedule for the CW looks remarkably like the old schedule for the CW. But what of all those new shows? Can you say midseason?

Via Deadline, the news was broken regarding how things are going to look in the fall for the so-called netlet. For fans of the DC Comics-TV universe know that you’ll still be able to get your fix of The Flash and Arrow at 8 pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays respectively. Meanwhile, fans of The Vampire Diaries will get their dream team when the Diaries spin-off The Originals makes the move to Thursdays at 9 pm following the mothership series. The Mary Queen of Scots drama Reign moves to Fridays at 8 pm as lead-in for America’s Next Top Model, while Jane the Virgin, iZombie and the long-running Supernatural will remain in their 9 pm slots on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

The only new series premiering on the CW in the fall is the romantic comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend starring Rachel Bloom. Returning series The 100 and Beauty and the Beast will be saved for midseason, as will the other new series ordered by the CW, the outbreak drama Containment.

But wait, we forgot one, the Arrow/Flash spin-off Legends of Tomorrow. That show has also been saved for midseason, likely as a fill-in for one or both of the other superhero series. According to Deadline, the show won’t be ready till midseason anyway, likely because the production team has been so busy juggling the massive finales of both Flash and Arrow.

In other Legends news, Entertainment Weekly revealed what character Caiy Lotz will be playing, and if you bet it was Sara Lance than collect your money at your earliest convenience. Her code name, as you may infer from the picture above, is White Canary. There’s a White Canary from the comic books, but she’s a villain from the Birds of Prey comic, so I wonder if the name is more about symbolism here? You know, because Sara Lance has been dead for almost a year. No word on how she comes back to life be it Lazarus Pit or time travel, so we’ll just have to wait and see when Legends premieres some in midseason.

For now though, most of the rest of your favorite CW shows will return this coming October.
