Bad Robot alumni Chris Pine is rumored to be circling one of Warner Brothers most anticipated DC films, Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot. The DC Cinematic Universe has just barely gotten off the ground, so this could be a great move for Pine to establish himself in the cornerstone role of Steve Trevor! More info after the jump!
Variety is reporting that Pine is in final talks to sign on to the upcoming Wonder Woman origin film. Pine’s role will be as Princess Diana’s love interest, Steve Trevor – an intellgence officer in the United States Army during World War II who was deserted on Paradise Island, the home of the Amazonians. Longtime fans of the DC comic universe know Trevor to be a well established character within the Wonder Woman series (both Silver Age and Prime Earth). Trevor has also been featured heavily in the Justice League pantheon having played a role as their key advisor and spokesperson, and an occasional agent of A.R.G.U.S.
Casting rumors earlier this month had tagged Scott Eastwood as the lead contender for this role, but folks at Variety reported that Eastwood instead opted for a part in the upcoming Suicide Squad ensemble adaptation. While Warner Bros. tested dozens of acters, Pine seemingly won them over with his proven track record with action films. It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he’s hotter than all get-out.
If Pine looks familiar, you aren’t having deja vu – he was part of the widely successful JJ Abrams reboot of Star Trek (2009), its eventual sequel Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and a host of other films all centered around him acting his perfectly crossfitted ass off. You’ll see Pine later this year in Comancheria, afterwhich he’ll no doubt dazzle us in Star Trek 3. No word on whether he’ll revisit his Princess Diaries franchise – everyone has three franchises these days, don’t they?
Wonder Woman will be released in 2017, directed by Patty Jenkins and written by Jason Fuchs.
You can also catch Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, set to be released on March 25th, 2016 directed by Zac Snyder.
