When first announced, Batman vs. Superman seemed like the best idea since sliced bread.  By bringing together Batman and Superman on the big screen for the first time ever, Warner Bros. could basically just sit back on their laurels and count the money as it poured in.  Adding Wonder Woman was a master stroke and while those dollar signs became more clear to the studio heads, the fans’ anticipation for the Justice League launching point became almost a fever.  Like any fever, however, as the source of that fever, i.e. information about the upcoming film, became more and more scarce, public interest has waned a bit.  With the news that Marvel will be sitting out San Diego Comic-Con this year hitting the interwebs earlier today, WB has finally decided to let fans have a peek behind the curtain and has released the official synopsis for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

After plenty of underwhelming set photos and lots of online rumors, Warner Bros. has finally let fans in on the backbone of the anticipated film:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Disappointed with that description?  You aren’t the only one.

There is literally nothing new here, other than confirmation of a plot that has been floating around as “unconfirmed rumors” for the past year.  Of course, no one expects Zack Snyder, who is helming the film as well as shepherding the DCCU towards Justice League, to lay out all of his cards yet but, damn, something new would have been nice!  Let’s just hope that WB/DC is saving all of their surprises for San Diego Comic-Con, instead of hiding the movie, much like Fox has done with the Fantastic Four reboot.

This synopsis represents only the latest disappointment with respect to BvS.  After a less-than-awesome teaser trailer was shown at SDCC last year, the only thing that those who are anticipating the film have seen are blurry set photos, and a second teaser that just happened to be released on the same day as the new Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens trailer.  After seeing that Wars trailer, could ANYONE get excited for the CGI offered by the BvS teaser? I think not.  At this point, it seems that more people are excited at the concept of the film than the film itself but if WB takes advantage of their new SDCC opportunity, these tables could turn and Batman v. Superman may be the property that winds up being the most anticipated of all of SDCC.  Let’s see how WB plays this.  For reference, here is that latest BvS teaser.

Are you excited for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice?  Will you be at Comic-Con for the Hall H panel?
