After the shellacking Earth took in Independence Day, one would expect that if the aliens ever returned to Earth, they would bring even bigger guns which would in turn raise the stakes in both destruction and extinction. Although I didn’t think that the bar could be raised any higher than the extinction of the human race. I mean OK, they could kill us all, gather DNA and clone us all and destroy us again in an even more horrible manner than the first time, but isn’t that first time really enough? It looks like director Roland Emmerich is ready to go all out when it comes to global destruction. Here’s the promo art poster displayed at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas:

Now here’s one of the first movie’s posters:

Looks like the ships are bigger this time around and much more powerful. I’m betting that the first alien they capture this time around will tell them:

Here’s the synopsis:

After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

I have to say that I never thought this sequel would get off the ground without Will Smith. Unless it was one of those knock off films that always pop up. Getting Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman in the cast are enough to get me interested. I’m still on the fence about seeing this in the theater though. It just seems more like a wait for HBO or Showtime to air kinda movie for me.

What about you?
