Well, here’s an odd bit of news about the Ghostbusters reboot. We already know that the movie won’t be the one that most people were hoping for, with the original cast and director (through no fault of theirs, to be sure). We’ve also seen a gender-swap that will take the franchise in a different direction. There will also be no connection to the original Ghostbusters franchise, meaning this is flick is on its own. So with so many changes, one more oddity won’t hurt, right? So what’s the news? Chris Hemsworth, none-other-than Thor himself, will be taking on the role of the Ghostbusters’ receptionist.
If you’re going to gender-swap the team, you might as well make it the entire team, right? The original receptionist – as anyone worth a damn will already know – was played by Annie Potts. She took on the role of a straight-woman to offset the antics of the ghost-busting team and did a damned good job, in my opinion. So will Hemsworth be aiming for the same sort of balance? Or will they be putting him in as yet another goofy character, one that just happens to be working as a receptionist? For the movie’s sake, I hope it’s the former.
Hemsworth will be joining a cast consisting of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones and working under the direction of Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) for the reboot. And while we may not all be happy about it, it will be arriving in theaters next year on July 22nd.
What say thee, Nerd Readers? Is Hemsworth going to make the movie better or is the reboot beyond redemption at this point?
