Green Leader is only on-screen for moments in Star Wars: Return of The Jedi, never speaks a line, but the character had such an impact on artist Daniel Warren Johnson that he felt he had to tell Green Leader’s story. How minor was this character in the Star Wars Universe? Arvel Crnyd, the actor who played Green Leader isn’t even credited in the movie. Johnson though, has taken this character that grabbed his attention and delivered a poignant and touching short comic that will make your day.

Here’s the Green Leader scene from Return of the Jedi:

Johnson had this to say about the character on his Space Mullet blog:

Ever since I was little, this has been, by far, my favorite scene in Star Wars.

For some reason, this A wing pilot MOVED me.  Everything about this part of Return of the Jedi made me want to DRAW and CREATE.   This is a fan fiction comic I made in April, just because I love this scene and I love comics.  I was originally going to only have this story in print with me at shows, but I want as many people to see it as possible.   There’s a big part of me in these eleven pages, I hope you can see it.

Love you guys.

pg-3You can read the entire comic here. Simultaneously bumming me out and making my day is not an easy thing to do, but Johnson does it quite well. This comic has gotten me thinking about some of the other Star Wars characters that quickly fluttered across the screen that should get some fleshing out. What about you is there another little known Star Wars character that pops in and out so fast that most people wouldn’t even remember them that you’d like to know more about?
