After a number of other directors passed on Fox and Channing Tatum‘s Gambit movie, the production finally has locked down a director. Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) will be behind the camera for Tatum’s love child of an X-Men movie.

This is actually good news for Gambit fans. Wyatt is an interesting choice and we should see something a little different from what was looking to be just another superhero movie. We’ll have to see if Wyatt can hold his own when up against Tatum and a studio that appears to be backing Tatum to the hilt. Perhaps that synergy will result in something Gambit fans are looking for.

Tatum will of course has a huge impact on the production as he is starring and producing the movie along with Carolin, Schuler, and Simon Kinberg. Wyatt successfully kicked off the return of the Planet of the Apes franchise and hopefully will do the same for the X-Men offshoot.

Gambit hits theater screens Oct. 7th, 2016. I imagine shooting will start later this Fall.

What do you think of Wyatt in the directors seat?
