Channing Tatum is one of the world’s most beloved male actors, though it is pretty easy to assume that his legions of fans may not necessarily be chasing him so that he can throw down a line from “Macbeth”. Still, after his award winning turn in Foxcatcher, audiences are a bit more excited to see his take on everyone’s favorite Cajun X-Man, Gambit. With X-Men: Apocalypse quickly approaching, many were hoping that audiences would be treated to a scene with the Ragin’ Cajun when the mutants return to the big screen on May 26, 2016. Unfortunately, Tatum has officially killed those hopes. According to a recent Reddit AMA, Tatum has confirmed, in no uncertain terms, that Gambit will not be appearing with his X-Men brethren any time soon.
While promoting an Omaze experience that is up for grabs in exchange for a charitable donation, Tatum took to Reddit so that fans could present him with questions and when a fan asked whether or not the Magic Mike star would show up in Apocalypse, the actor kept it short and sweet.
No ma’am, or sir. I definitely will not.
Well, “definitely” does seem pretty…definite but considering just how tight lipped any actor attached to a superhero property generally plays it, only time will tell. The actor didn’t stop the Gambit talk there, though, and offered a few words on the project.
We finally found someone that I really do believe wants to make Gambit. It will be the second standalone character. And I just really think because Gambit is not the most popular or the biggest hero, I think there’s a really unique opportunity. Marvel’s done a lot of great movies that have made a ridiculous amount of money, and it’s always good to figure how to change the form.
It is likely that Tatum is referring to Gambit director Rupert Wyatt when he references the person that “wants to make Gambit”, now that the Rise of the Planet of the Apes director has signed on for the X-Men spinoff. Or, is it a Wolverine spinoff? No, let’s pretend X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn’t happen and call it an X-Men spinoff. That works.
Interestingly, Tatum’s exclusion of the upcoming Deadpool movie when discussing the standalone characters has many wondering if the actor is intentionally leaving the title out, as it is a bit of a different world than the family friendly fare the X-Men flicks have offered. Does he not consider Deadpool as part of this world? Is he dismissing Deadpool because he has insider knowledge that indicate Deadpool is in a world of his own? Perhaps, but the smart money says that Channing simply forgot about the upcoming flick when discussing his superhero role, or still considers Gambit the second stand alone, since it has been in development for so long. In other words, it probably wouldn’t do much for your life to assume he has anything against Deadpool.
Omaze is making the rounds today and definitely gaining some new donors! In case you missed it, Terminator Genisys star Arnold Schwarzenegger was having some fun this week to raise awareness for the organization. Basically, Omaze supports several different causes and accepts donations on these charities’ behalf. A donation gets you a chance to win all of this, when we are talking the Channing Tatum experience:
– Ride to the premiere of Magic Mike XXL with Channing in his motorcade and walk the red carpet
– Enjoy a luxury spa day, tux or gown fitting, and entrance to the VIP after-party
– Be flown to Los Angeles and put up in a 4-star hotel
That’s for you AND a friend. Charity has never been so beautiful, am I right? In case you need further motivation, here is the trailer for Tatum’s next flick, Magic Mike XXL, which hits theaters on July 1.
Gambit is slated to hit theaters on October 7, 2016. Check out Omaze’s website for plenty of other chances to win some absolutely wonderful experiences with quite a few different stars.
