While doing some press for Call of Duty: Black Ops III at E3 Rosario Dawson also talked a little about her character Claire during Netflix‘s Daredevil Season 2, her possible crossover into Netflix’s Jesscia Jones/Luke Cage/Iron Fist series, and her excitement about the casting and introduction of the Punisher (Jon Bernthal).
Dawson had this to say about her character Claire (The Night Nurse):
She’s funny, she’s wry, she’s strong — she’s built for that world, because she’s great under pressure. She’s someone — hero or not — you’d want to have in a dire situation… I really just liked her arc all the way through.
I’m looking forward to seeing where that goes, because her eyes have been opened up to this other world — and she’s crossed the line. You know, this is someone who helps people, and she’s been violent now but seeing the need for it. I think there’s a lot that she’s having to grapple with, and I think that’s what’s exciting about using this show to explore street-level characters: it makes it that much more closer to us.
Even just having Night Nurse and Claire Temple come together was already changing the Marvel Universe,” Dawson continued. “So it just feels like, A) I finally get to join Marvel. I get to do it in a way that’s completely altering the universe, which is awesome. And then, B) I have no idea where it’s going to go, because here I was having a fling with Matt Murdock, and now Luke Cage is coming up, and Jessica Jones.
When asked about the casting of Jon Bernthal as Punisher in Season 2:
That’s going to raise the stakes so much more, because Matt Murdock almost behaves like the Punisher in the first season. [Matt] crosses the line quite often, so it’s going to be really interesting to see how they differentiate them and where that goes.
What does Dawson think about the darker style of Daredevil’s first season:
It’s very realistic-feeling. You know, they have that whole ’Old Boy’ kind of fighting style, but it’s great. It’s really fun to see people miss punches and get tired. They’re people. So I’m very curious to see how that develops, as we’re maybe starting to bring in some of the more fantastical heroes that we keep alluding to.
Now Dawson did want to clarify one thing about any possible crossover:
I have no idea how they’re wanting me to come back or in which way, shape or form, but it’s nice to know that I’ve got a character who does kind of string everyone together and bring all those worlds together.
It is a popular Comic Book Store Conversation about Daredevil and the other Netflix series that Dawson’s character Claire will be the “Nick Fury” of the Netflix universe, showing up in each show to add deeper ties and links between the series and help establish the cohesive universe that Marvel loves.
Who knows, her character Claire could make the jump to the big screen even before Daredevil and the others band together to form The Defenders.
