According to a fan’s website, he has been invited to pitch his TV series idea for a new small-screen iteration of Star Trek directly to the folks at Paramount Pictures.  Michael Gummelt has been working for years and years on a new Trek storyline for television, and has an insanely-detailed website devoted to it, which may be enough for some Hollywood execs to say “eh, why not, let’s give the guy a chance.”

According to Gummelt via a conversation he recently had with the folks a

“I can now officially announce that I do, indeed, have an invitation to come pitch Star Trek Uncharted at Paramount this summer! As far as I know, this is the first time a fan (not an established industry insider) has been invited to pitch a Star Trek TV series. This is, obviously, extremely exciting and I’m doing my best to get support for it from industry professionals. One of my concept cast members has read the script and expressed interest in supporting it, which is fantastic!”

Gummelt recently changed the title of his fan fiction to Star Trek Uncharted from its original title, Star Trek Beyond – which is what may have precipitated the conversation with Paramount to begin with, seeing as how Beyond is rumored to be the preferred title for the next Star Trek film in the JJ Abrams-verse.  Gummelt has moved his site to and appears to have given up the rights to; it’s entirely possible that this “pitch meeting” was a contingency of Gummelt’s deal to release the website domain for Paramount to use in its marketing.  It seems strange that Paramount would be the target meeting for a Trek TV series anyhow, seeing that CBS owns the television rights to any future potential Star Trek property, as I learned recently when reporting updates on the fan-hopeful Captain Worf television series.

Credit where credit is due, though: Gummelt’s overview and ideas for a TV series are incredibly in-depth, and you can check them out as much as you’d like over at his website,  Whether anything comes of this “pitch meeting,” we will all just have to wait and see what’s in store for the man who’s going…where no fan has gone before!  Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
