After having overseen the destruction of the western seaboard, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wants to do a little more hands-on mayhem. Hollywood Reporter announced today that Johnson has been attached to a big screen adaptation of a classic video game has it all: giant monsters eating destroyed cities, and glorious 8-bit graphics. That’s right, Rampage is coming to theaters sometime in the not-so-distant future.
Producer Beau Flynn, who teamed up with Johnson to destroy California in this summer’s San Andreas has been tapped to helm the new film, with screenwriter Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) penning the script for a summer 2016 production start.
The game, for those of you too young to remember the 80s, involves a giant ape (NOT King Kong) a giant lizard (NOT Godzilla) and a giant werewolf (NOT Benicio Del Toro) destroying cities for fun while puny little army men annoy them.
Here’s to hoping the Rock’s not one of those puny army men.
