The overall quality and watch-ability of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is debatable. The acting isn’t the strongest, the dialogue is pretty bad and cheesy at times, and the plot is a bit slow and all over the place. However,  the story lines are getting tighter as the show goes on. Also, as each character develops, there are questions raised that keep viewers coming back each week for answers.

Things are going to get a lot more interesting in season 3.  Variety reports that the series will be introducing characters inspired by the Secret Warriors comic book series when the show returns this fall.

Secret Warriors is a Marvel series featuring Nick Fury and Team White, a team of superpowered agents in the Marvel Comics Universe. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, the characters were introduced in Mighty Avengers #13, and debuted as a team in Secret Invasion #3, both published in 2008.

Season 3 will see Agent Coulson and Skye travelling the world and recruiting powered people to form the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the Secret Warriors team. The Agents of SHIELD Season 2 finale hinted at this direction when Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), filling in as Quake’s mentor on the show, handed her a folder labelled “Caterpillars,” said to contain details of her next mission.

I, for one, am a little hesitant at the promise of Secret Warriors. It’s a good angle to take, but what the team has gone through in the comics is improbable to see happen on screen. The rag tag group was first introduced to assist in the aid of repelling the Skrull Invasion. Then they dealt with HYDRA and later H.A.M.M.E.R.

The Skrull Invasion is too big of a Marvel event to transpire in just television. Then thanks to the events in Avengers: Age of Ultron, HYDRA has been dismantled. H.A.M.M.E.R. is a fictional espionage group and law enforcement led by Spider-Man’s Norman Osborn. I’d doubt they’d introduce Osborn before the NEW Spider-Man makes his appearance in Civil War.

So, if the Secret Warriors are to be inspired from the comic, then I don’t know what villainous group will  be featured in Agents of SHIELD Season 3. This Secret Warriors business will likely be in name only, kind of like how the creatives handled the induction of Mockingbird.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will also be at San Diego Comic Con, and will  play up the Secret Warriros. Marvel has the following planned:

Since Coulson and his team are already seeking out new recruits, ABC and Marvel are launching their own initiative at San Diego Comic-Con, giving fans a chance to be part of the team. From Thursday, July 9 through Saturday, July 11, SHIELD ambassadors will be roaming the convention to find the most dedicated fans and rewarding them with limited edition “Secret Warriors” pins. You can track the ambassadors on Twitter by following the @AgentsOfSHIELD account.

Fans who find themselves recruited to the “Secret Warriors” at Comic-Con will complete their first mission by posting a photo of themselves wearing the pin to social media using #SHIELDSecretWarriors, after which, “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” cast members will select some of their favorite photos, which could get posted to the show’s official Twitter page, @AgentsOfSHIELD. (Terms and conditions here.)

More will be revealed about “Secret Warriors” and season three of “MAoS” during the “Marvel Television Presents” panel at SDCC on Friday, July 10 from 3:00 PM – 4:15PM in Ballroom 20.
