Can’t wait for more Starlord, Rocket, Groot, the Professor and Mary-Anne? Need to know what fantastic title they’ve come up with the next volume that is the adventures of the Guardians of the Galaxy? Wait no longer! Director James Gunn just posted to his Facebook Timeline confirmation that the new film, due out 5/5/17, will be called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
This is a riff, of course, on Peter “Starlord” Quill’s Awesome Mix Tape Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, gifts left for him by his mother when he was still a boy on Earth, and his most cherished possessions.
Gunn was impressed that some of his fans had figured out what the title would be simply from a partial photo of the cover-page of the script. “Also, hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page. More than one person guessed “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” – I wanted so badly to give you props at the time, but knew I had to wait.”
The full announcement:
“Yes, the official title of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” Gunn just posted to his official Facebook page. “Kevin Feige recently let the title slip while doing Ant-Man press, which I’m really happy about because God knows I’ve let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page. Also, hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page. More than one person guessed ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ – I wanted so badly to give you props at the time, but knew I had to wait.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will once again feature Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as unlikely heroes who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.
“For Kevin to mess up,” Gunn also jokes at the end of his announcement. “Haha.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be one of three Marvel Studios films getting released in 2017. It will be followed by a new Spider-Man film on July 28 (starring Tom Holland and directed by Jon Watts) and Thor: Ragnarok on November 3.
