Imagine it: you’re out on a nice, sunny day, relaxing pool-side on the deck of a huge cruise ship where you’ve been enjoying great cuisine and fun entertainment (and unlimited drinks at the bar, hey-yo!)… and then your good times are ruined when a zombie comes staggering onto the Lido Deck and tries to eat your brains. While it sounds like a scenario out of the latest zombie novel or video game, in 2016 the scenario might be all too real – if you sign up to be a passenger on the new “The Walking Dead” themed cruise!
Norwegian Cruise Lines, in conjunction with marketing firm Sixthman and the folks who organize The Walker Stalker conventions, are bringing The Walker Stalker Cruise to the, ahem, shambling masses. While this is certainly not the first cruise specifically catering to zombie fans, it may be one of the biggest in terms of overall experience; setting sail mid-January of next year and taking a 3-day trip from Miami, FL, to the Bahamas, the cruise promises something for everyone – if you’re into the undead menace, that is.
One thing that fans love at conventions are celebrity guests, and the Walker Stalker Cruise looks like it will deliver on that front as well: currently scheduled to take the boat ride are multiple current and former TWD cast members, including Ross Marquand (Aaron), Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (Bob), Christian Serratos (Rosita), Chad L. Coleman (Tyrese), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), Emily Kinney (Beth), Chandler Riggs (Carl), and Norman Reedus (Daryl). The experience will offer panels, photo ops, a “zombie makeup experience,” and autograph sessions – some of which will cost extra – in addition to as-yet-unspecified “theme nights” and the usual amenities of a massive cruise ship (pools, spas, rock walls, bars, etc.).
Per the official cruise website, pricing is going to start around $1,000 per person (which includes all associated fees), and covers room & board plus all food and drink. The cruise is currently in pre-sale mode, and the website promises a free Norman Reedus signed lithograph to the first 1,000 people to sign up. No specific word yet on how many “Coral” jokes you’ll be allowed to make in Chandler Riggs’ presence before you’re thrown overboard.
So, true zombie fans: what are you waiting for? Run, don’t walk – or shamble, as the case may be – to your computer and get signed up today!
