There’s a scene in the latest Ant-Man trailer where Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) is giving Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) a pep talk to encourage him to suit up as the insectoid hero. Lang’s responses is that Pym’s dire straits seems more like a job for the Avengers than a new Ant-Man. Well, one out of six ain’t bad. It’s not exactly a state secret, and the appearance of the Avenger in question can be spoiled as easily as looking at Ant-Man’s IMDb page, but if you’d rather not know, then you’re advised to look away from this post, because the following Ant-Man TV spot pretty handily ruins what looks like a cool cameo in the upcoming Marvel Studios‘ film.
So who is this Avenger that is assembling to help Ant-Man? Press play below (although you really don’t need to because his name is there at the top, and you can see him there in the screen grab).
Looks like Falcon (played, of course, by Anthony Mackie) is celebrating his new status as an Avenger by lending a hand to Ant-Man. You’ll recall that Falcon along with Vision, the Scarlet Witch and War Machine became Avengers at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s uncertain what role Falcon will play in the story, at least to those of us who have yet to see the movie, but one wonders if Falcon’s assistance will leverage how Ant-Man is involved in Captain America: Civil War. Rudd is confirmed to appear in that film too alongside Mackie, Chris Evans and, well, just about every other major character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
One also wonders if this isn’t some of the interference that result in Edgar Wright walking away from Ant-Man. Presumably the role isn’t a small or inconsequential one, again considering that the powers that be don’t seem to care whether we know Falcon/Mackie is in there or not, so this may not be a wholly creative decisions. I guess we’ll find out in a couple of weeks.
Ant-Man is in theaters everywhere on July 17.
