We didn’t get to see her in Daredevil Season One but she was clearly mentioned. Keen viewers who heard Foggy Nelson ask “what about that Greek girl?” when inquiring to Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox) about his former college fling, will have picked up on it as an obvious reference to Elektra Natchios; the on-and-off again love interest of Daredevil, who later becomes a Sai wielding deadly assassin and Ninja overlord.
Daredevil fans hoped this was more than just an Easter Egg, and that we would get to see the character integrated into Season 2; as she is such a central part of the Daredevil comic book mythos.
With filming currently underway, Netflix has announced the assassin/sometimes hero will indeed fill out the second season cast. And fans should be delighted to find that they picked the right lady for the job.
Elodie Yung, who played a ninja in red in G.I. Joe: Retaliation (Jinx) will play a ninja in red in season 2 of Daredevil (Elektra)
Here’s the official description:
“Yung will play Elektra, a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.” The first season of “Daredevil” contained references to Elektra, but the character was not seen on screen.
Created by comics legend Frank Miller, Elektra first appeared in 1981’s “Daredevil” #168. A deadly assassin and sometimes hero, Elektra branched out from the “Daredevil” series to headline many of her own comics, including the acclaimed “Elektra: Assassin” miniseries and the “Elektra Lives Again” graphic novel
“After a worldwide search, we found in Élodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb said in Marvel’s announcement. ““Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”
Along with Elektra, it was announced last month that the Punisher — another Marvel character who has starred in comics and feature films — is set to join Daredevil, as played by The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal.
Daredevil Season Two is scheduled to debut in 2016 on Netflix.
