Comic Con has games? Clearly you’re new here, but yes, there is a strong video game presence at San Diego Comic Con, and like all things in movies, comics and TV, SDCC marks a pretty big date on the calender for video game companies looking to get some promo for their new products. To wit, let’s talk LEGO. We all love LEGO, it, and everything about it, is awesome! But are you looking for something new in gaming that can tie together all your favorite licensed LEGO characters, characters created for The LEGO Movie, and Doctor Who? Good news, because here’s the trailer for the new LEGO Dimensions game.
If you’re a fan of – well, anything – it looks LEGO Dimensions is the game for you. Click play below and check it out:
For the record, yes, that is the voice of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, and although I don’t think you hear her, Jenna Coleman also lends her voice as current companion Clara. But the Doctor has new companions: Wyldstyle, LEGO Batman, and what I assume is LEGO Gandalf voiced by Patrick Stewart. That’s good casting considering that Stewart is filling Gandalf shoes of Ian McKellen, who’s Magneto to Stewart’s Professor X in the first three X-Men movies. And you thought this game wasn’t meta enough…
You’ll note that several LEGO versions of past Doctors also appear at the end of trailer, but the minute-and-a-half clip doesn’t really spell out a lot in terms of plot details. Are other versions of the Doctor playable, I wonder? Can you choose your Doctor? Unclear, just as the circumstances for one meeting is unclear, but eagle-eyed viewers will note that it seems that the Doctor and Doc Brown from Back to the Future will meet at some point. Love to be a fly on that wall as they exchange time travel stories.
LEGO Dimensions will be available for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. You can find it on video game store shelves everywhere on September 27, 2015.
