The Star Wars Panel has left the pop culture community with bated breathe as announcements and videos fill the inter-web with celebratory fervor due to the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this winter. All the while, Lucasfilms is pressing onward with their next Star Wars film slated for release.
Along with all the previews and behind the scenes at the Star Wars panel, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Gareth Edwards Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One’will begin shooting in three weeks. This confirmation comes on the heels of a confirmed date of release in theaters, December 16, 2016.
Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set between the events of Episode III and IV. The film is set to follow a band of Rebels stealing plans for the original Death Star. Felicity Jones stars as a Rebel soldier, Riz Ahmed and Diego Luna will play Rebel characters, and Ben Mendelsohn is expected to play a villain, the specifics on the villain are yet to be released.
Darth Vader is expected to make an appearance, but not as a main villain.
