Star Wars being at Comic-Con was going to be a pretty big deal, no question about it. Just how big of a day it was going to be, though, was perhaps grossly under estimated.
The line for Hall H snaked around the the entire convention complex with over 6000 people hoping to get in on the Friday July 10th panel. A lot of fans had slept outside the venue overnight just to ensure their entry into the Hall, with some fans even having camped out as early as Wednesday evening. Was all this waiting worth it? Yes, yes it was!
Instead of a new trailer or exclusive footage, fans were treated to a behind the scenes look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, producer and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and writer Lawrence Kasdan. The filmmakers were joined on stage by cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford to the surprise and delight of fans.
At the end of the Hall H presentation, the entire Hall H audience of more than 6,000 fans were all invited to continue the celebration and join cast and filmmakers at a surprise Star Wars Fan Concert. The San Diego Symphony performed the classic Star Wars music from John Williams at the Embarcadero Marina Park South.
While nothing will quite compare to have been at this once-in-a-lifetime event, non con goers can get a taste of the magic. Below is a highlight (courtesy of i09) featuring extended footage from the panel as the cast and crew discuss being a part of this momentous movie. Also Lucasfilm’s own reel, featuring reactions from JJ Abrams.
Star Wars is a spectacle and events like this show just what a spectacle it truly is. The force is with us!
*UPDATE: The full panel is now online for all of you to enjoy! The video below comes from Flicks And The City.
