If you’ve been keeping track of the DC television universe, then it’s likely that you haven’t been disappointed by either Flash or Arrow. A combination of good writing, excellent casting and a commitment to keeping it comic book-y enough for the fanboys has made both of these shows successful enough to warrant continued seasons. When October rolls around, they’ll be coming back and it seems as if The Flash will be facing off against yet even more villains during the next run – Lewis Snart and Atom Smasher.
For those unfamiliar with these villains, here’s the rundown:
Lewis Snart is the head of the Snart family. He also happens to be the father of both Leonard Snart (AKA Captain Cold) and Lisa Snart (AKA Golden Glide), both of which have already appeared in the series. He’s an abusive asshole and the reason his kids didn’t turn out so well. He’ll be showing up during the third episode of the season, ‘Family of Rogues’, and will likely become a huge pain in the butt for both of his kids as well as poor Barry Allen.
So who’s the guy who will be playing Lewis Snart? It’s none-other-than Michael Ironside. Not sure who he is? Here’s a picture of him. Once you see it, you’ll realize you’ve seen this dude everywhere.
He was in Highlander II, Starship Troopers, Terminator Salvation and a host of other bad sci-fi and horror flicks. He also did the voice for notorious and famous comic book character, Darkseid. A return to the DC universe as a brutal and abusive criminal seems almost perfect for Ironside.
The other villain we can expect to see come season 2 is Atom Smasher. Pics of this baddie have already been spread across the Internet, but up until recently nobody know who was behind the mask. Now we know that it’s former WWE wrestler, Edge (also known as Adam Copeland). He messed himself up a few years back and had to retire from wrestling, but a huge dude like this certainly isn’t going to go to waste in a world that is currently obsessed with super heroes.
Here’s a picture of the man in question, both in and out of the mask:
According to a statement from The CW:
“One of the most powerful enemies we encounter this season, Atom Smasher has come to Central City to kill The Flash. His incredible strength and ability to grow to enormous size makes him more than a match for Flash and the entire S.T.A.R. Labs team will have to come together to find a way to defeat him.”
So it looks like we can expect some giant-sized action next season, which should be pretty damned cool, at least on a visual level. Hopefully we’ll get more than just eye-candy from Atom Smasher, though, because it’s always awesome when we get to see villains return to try their hands at destroying The Flash a second time.
What say the Nerd-Reading Flash fans out there? Excited to see these two classic Flash characters as additions to the show? Is there someone that you’re holding out for The CW to bring into the picture?
