Whatever happened to Michael Cera? He used to appear in two or three movies a year, but aside from the fourth season of Arrested Development and a memorable appearance in This is the End, he seems to have all but disappeared from the landscape. Appropriately enough, Cera’s next big role will only require his voice and not his actual person, and it will require him to team-up again with his Arrested Development uncle Will Arnett. What weird sort of project brings these two Canadian actors together again? Why it’s the LEGO Movie spin-off The LEGO Batman Movie, and Cera will play the Boy Wonder to Arnett’s Caped Crusader.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cera will play Robin in the animated film, which will see Arnett’s LEGO Batman star in his own adventure. Not much is known about the film so far, but Cera’s casting is the first piece of news concerning the film and the direction it might go in. Might Channing Tatum‘s LEGO Superman be on hand for a cameo, or Cobie Smulders LEGO Wonder Woman, or Jonah Hill as LEGO Green Lantern? And who might play the villains in the movie or other characters? Would it be too much to suggest that the live-action DC Comics movie actors be recruited? Jared Leto as LEGO Joker, or Jeremy Irons as LEGO Alfred? I guess we’ll find out in due course.

In the meantime, what we do know about LEGO Batman so far is that it will pay tribute to Batman in all his various incarnations. “Rest assured that every era of Batman filmmaking will be acknowledged,” said LEGO Movie director Chris Miller. “There have been so many interpretations of Batman and there is so much to play with there. There are 40 versions of his origin story alone.”

Original LEGO Movie filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are on board as producers, LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay is directing, and the script is being written by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter author Seth Grahame-Green.

The LEGO Batman Movie will be in theaters everywhere on February 10, 2017.
