Neill Blomkamp Unleashes New ALIEN Concept Art

Instagram is Twitter for people who can’t read. All you’ll find are selfies, food porn, and girls taking photos of their legs on the beach (Life is good, we get it). Occasionally, though, you’ll come across something good. Something like Neil Blomkamp‘s Instagram Account. The District 9 director has famously used it as a dumping ground for his concept art for a proposed Alien sequel. His designs depicted his vision for the happenings to Sigourney Weaver‘s Ripley and Michael Biehn‘s Hicks post the events in Aliens – one piece of art even featured Riply wearing some sort of xenomorph suit (pictured above). Thanks to the art releases, FOX has supposedly green light the premise and will allow Blomkamp to direct (and write) the newly proposed Alien sequel.

We haven’t heard much on the project since the beginning of the year, until now. Blomkamp has shared a piece of new Alien concept art, indicating things are still moving forward.

#alien going very well. Love this project

The new image features both Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn), although neither actor has been confirmed to come back to the series yet. The inclusion of Hicks/Biehn is especially interesting, since Hicks died at the start of Alien 3 and Blomkamp has said he’s not retconning either that movie or its followup, the Ripley clone saga Alien Resurrection, saying:

My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien 1 and 2.

Aside from the new Instagram update, things are still in the dark when it comes to this movie. While the director has said it will be his next film, there’s no release date set at this point.

Blomkamp concept sounds like the sequel to Aliens we’ve been waiting for since 1986! He can’t mess this up, though, and he knows it. If he screws up, he’s gonna get a life sentence in movie jail.
