The Truth is out there. Or rather it was sneaked into a commercial break on last night’s episode of Wayward Pines. Fox gave fans a special sneak peak at next year’s X-Files relaunch during the penultimate episode of Pines Thursday night, a show that obviously owes a lot to The X-Files‘ and its intriguing blend of the macabre and the bizarre. So apropos then that it should be through the M. Night Shyamalan series that we get a – sigh – full 15 seconds of X-Files preview. So that’s not much, but it’s enough to tide us over, and I’ll admit that it’s also a very tantalizing 15 seconds. Wanna check it out?

You’ll note that the opening scene with the crashed UFO looks very much some recent spy pics from the set, suggesting that this may be an important plot point in the new show. Plus, it looks like it might be a flashback, perhaps, to the Roswell crash in 1947. I don’t think that particular piece of UFOlore has been covered directly by The X-Files although it was mentioned several times. Still, the appearance of 1940s army men sort of makes me think that this is a glimpse of the Darin Morgan episode for the mini-series, and his stuff always has tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Also there was a glimpse of Mulder (David Duchovny) hiding in the dark, and a pistol-packing Scully (Gillian Anderson). Seems like old times to me.

Look for little bits like this to be parceled out piecemeal from now until January. The X-Files will begin its six-episode run with a two-night premiere on Sunday January 24 following the NFC Championship game. Obviously, we’ll have more news on The X-Files as it develops. Stay tuned.
