So after a slew of information surfaced about a possible Xena: Warrior Princess reboot, Lucy Lawless herself took to Twitter to break some news to us. It’s all just rumors. She does add that it’s “still in the wishful thinking stage”, so maybe some of the reported planning is being done, just not progressing at the rate we’d hoped.

THR did describe the developments of this possible reboot as being “in the extremely early development stages.” Rumors of it started when producers Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert hired Lawless to be in their new show, Ash vs Evil Dead. These three were already well connected, as Raimi and Tapert were the ones that hired Lawless to debut as Xena when they produced the 90’s TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Her performance led to her starring in her own TV series, Xena: Warrior Princess. It seems that when these 3 names were thrown together again, some assumptions were made.

Adding fuel to the rumors for sure was the fact that Lawless has been very open about her support of a Xena remake. She said to Hitfix at Comic Con:

I don’t know what the holdup is… Don’t waste this opportunity. Reinvigorate that franchise…They’re fools not to bring it back.

I’m pitching my ass off to make it happen, whether it’s with me or not. I think it’d be funny to have a reboot like Ash vs. Evil Dead — like middle-aged Xena in a muumuu with a bad attitude and a smoking habit. … Bring Ted Raimi in … [and maybe] Bruce Campbell.

More unknowns were whether Lawless would be in front of the camera or behind the scenes, and whether the reboot would be a short “event series” or an ongoing one. NBC and NBC Universal International were said to be behind the reboot as well, and an estimated airdate of 2016 had even cropped up.

Only time will tell if any of this “planning” comes to pass. Things seemed to be going so well! Do you think maybe a reboot is starting up- without Lawless’s knowledge and/or involvement? Or maybe Xena’s just shooting it straight with us- sorry, but it’s just not happening. (Yet.)
