Wondering when Guillermo del Toro is going to finally get started on the next chapter of his giant robots versus giant monsters franchise, Pacific Rim? Ever since the first movie came out, people have been waiting for more. Del Toro was pretty adamant about the fact that he was going to continue with a second film and now it seems as if he’s finally getting to it. Scroll on to find out the latest concerning when they’ll begin shooting as well as a rumor about what the possible title will be.
According to reports, the crew for Pacific Rim 2 will be heading to Toronto to start shooting come this November. Del Toro will be done doing the rounds for Crimson Peak (which releases in October) and shall have the time he needs to devote to the big-budget kaiju flick.
The other bit of news, which is still just a rumor at this point, is that the Pacific Rim 2 title shall be… Maelstrom. What that implies as to what we’ll be seeing is a mystery, but I’d guess more giant robots and more giant monsters battling it out to determine the fate of the Earth. Or maybe, as past rumors have suggested, we’re going to see the Jaegers actually take a trip to the home of the kaiju and try to end the war for good? Either way, it’s going to be quite the ride.
So if you’re in the mood for more Pacific Rim, keep your eyes open and (tentatively) mark your calendar for August 4th of 2017.
