While making the publicity rounds for their soon to release Vacation reboot writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein stopped by NPR to chat. NPR asked them the usual Vacation movie questions, but also threw in one last question about the new Spider-Man reboot, asking what fans could expect.
The pair, pictured above in tails and top hats had this to say about Spider-Man:
Daley: We can finally acknowledge that.
Goldstein: We’ve been saying no comment for the last week.
Daley: This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it.
Goldstein: We’re thrilled.
Daley: … He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor. It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.
We’ll first see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War next May 6th in 2016. Not sure currently who might have written that scene or scenes that Spider-Man will be popping up in. It could be Civil War screenplay writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, but then again it could have been Daley ad Goldstein’s first duty as Spider-Man screen writers.
Daley played a geeky outcast in the cult favorite Freaks and Geeks back in the late 90’s. If he can channel any of that into the new Spider-Man script then we’re in a treat when Tom Holland hits the big screen.
What do you think? Will these two deliver the Peter Parker we, and all the Marvel Cinematic Universe deserves?
