Jena Malone, who is best known for her roles in The Hunger Games franchise, SuckerPunch and Donnie Darko just to name a few, is cast to star in Batman v. Superman. The casting news has been known for quite some time, October of 2014 to be exact. Initially fans and media alike thought she would play Carrie Kelley, the Robin from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, but Latino Review is reporting that she will play a different iconic Batman femme.
Jena Malone is currently being rumored to be playing Barbara Gordon in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
If this rumor is true, it’ll be the first time in over ___ years that Batgirl/Oracle will appear on film, if you recall the last live-action appearance of Batgirl was with Alicia Silverstone in the 1997 film Batman & Robin.
Barbara Gordon is the DC Universe’s most recognized female character in her own canonical merit, as she is also the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon, who is said to be dead in Batman V. Superman. It is unknown, if the rumors are true, what version of Barbara Malone will play—Batgirl, or Oracle. Oracle, who’s paralyzed by the Joker in Alan Moore’s Killing Joke graphic novel and became an internet sleuth that helped Batman through information retrieval, hacking, and digital communication; or the current DC iteration of her which is the crime-fighter extraordinaire, Batgirl.
Sound off Nerbastards, what do you think about this potential casting news? Is it the right choice? What version of Barbara should she play in the film?
