You’ve undoubtedly heard the term “step on a crack and break your mothers back”. Well, have you heard the one “Help a Han Solo and Snap Your Spine”? Of course you haven’t, it doesn’t make for a good jingle. But it does happen. Director J.J. Abrams knows this first hand. He literally broke his back while trying to make Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And yes, Han Solo was involved.
Remember when Harrison Ford (aka Han Solo) hurt his foot/ankle when stepping back into the Millennium Falcon? Apparently, it was more than just a a misstep. One of the doors from the set fell on Ford’s legs. Rushing to his aid was JJ Abrams who went to lift the object of Ford. In the process, Abrams broke his back. Apparently, the door was as heavy as Thor’s hammer and Abrams pulled so hard that his back was not worthy.
This onset injury was told by Abrams on an in interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.
By the power of the Force, both men were fine, though Abrams had to wear a brace around the Force Awakens set for a while (he compared it to Spanx).
Never mind Abrams. A door falls and crushed Ford’s leg. Then weeks later Ford gets into an airplane crash and survives. Somebody call Mr. Glass, we’ve found a real like unbreakable superhero.
