Under the direction of Paul Feig, the production of the Ghostbusters reboot is well underway in Boston, Massachusetts; but it seems that surprises are still springing up. The cast recently popped into a children’s hospital, fully geared and sporting brand new proton packs. On top of that, Dan Aykroyd took to Facebook to announce that he’ll have a cameo in the movie- just like another star of the original that was recently photographed heading to set. If you want to be surprised, don’t keep reading! But if you do, here’s the THR confirmed scoop!
ComingSoon.net obtained photos of Bill Murray arriving in Boston on August 6th, along with some of him en route to the Ghostbusters set to shoot a cameo on August 7th.
Now, this round of Ghostbusters has cut all ties to the original franchise, so as far as the narrative is concerned, we won’t be seeing Aykroyd and Murray in their respective characters of Ray Stantz and Peter Venkman. No matter who they end up playing, they’re bound to provide some seriously funny banter with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
Ernie Hudson, the last remaining member of the original confirmed cast without a confirmed cameo, was pretty vocal about his displeasure over an idea or a reboot. He did seem to come around a bit earlier this year, however, calling the new cast “a very funny group”, and expressed how he’d love to pass the torch off-screen, but on-screen means he would “get paid.”
Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts could also all possibly be candidates for cameos, but that would ultimately undermine the whole point of breaking from the original franchise if they just bring everyone back!
Back to Bill- The Boston Globe has the story on Murray’s stop at Martha’s Vineyard, where he dished out advice on how to have the best time in the area (answers: swimming every day, eating lots of ice cream), eating ice cream, and chatting with the local kids.
It’s hard to imagine that a Bill Murray cameo could be anything but a treat, (remember Zombieland?), but what do you think? Are you happy with the news? Or is the reboot getting too tied into the original for your taste?
