Much to the chagrin of fans, Constantine was cancelled. While there was hope that the supernatural show would find new life on Netflix or Hulu, it sadly was not picked up. While Constantine – the show -has gone into oblivion, all is not lost. Matt Ryan will reprise his role as John Constantine in the upcoming season of Arrow.
The CW announced the new today at the Television Critics Association, saying:
“It’s a great one-shot episode,” mentioned Mark Pedowitz during the CW’s presentation, although obviously a number of DC Comics characters have come for one episode and ended up returning for more in Arrow‘s history
Adding to the announcement comes a video Tweet from Constantine himself, Matt Ryan:

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim had previously said that Constantine was considered as a potential “expert” they could have called upon during Season Three to give Oliver Queen insight on the Lazarus Pit and other seemingly-mystical elements of Ra’s al Ghul’s mythology. This was, of course, when Constantine was still on the air and talk of the shows crossing over was abound. Season 4 of Arrow will delve into more magic and supernatural elements, so perhaps Constantine will still come in as a spiritual advisor or may need the help of Arrow and crew to combat some dark evil. Whatever the case may be, its amazing to see this character still live on in TV land despite the axe of cancellation.
Arrow returns with new episodes starting October 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT Wednesdays on The CW.
