We weren’t expecting a reveal like this until this weekends D23, and maybe it’s not even something Disney was ready to release. Doesn’t matter. All that’s important is that we have our first look at Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Starwars7 News has the scoop in a set photo of Hamill as Luke all decked out in a new and regal looking Jedi robe.
Luke’s story arc in the Force Awakens is not certain. It’s been said in reference to Luke (via EW):
“There’s no question, the Luke we watched staring off at the twin suns of Tatooine in the original Star Wars is not the same Luke we last saw standing in the shadows of Endor while his victorious friends celebrated the fall of the Emperor, the death of Darth Vader, and the destruction of the second Death Star. War distorts any soul, and getting older always comes with compromises. Each one takes a piece of you — parts that can’t be replaced like a cybernetic hand.”
This has lead to fans to suspect that Luke might be toeing the line between the light side of the force and the dark. With the white robes, though, it looks like Luke is going for an Obi-Wan look which we can only assume is something good. Still, we don’t know. He’s journey is being kept a secret and for good reason. Makes it all that much more interesting.
If anything, Mark Hamill commands a fierce Jedi beard.
