The second trailer for Ridley Scott‘s The Martian starring Matt Damon has hit the Internet and if this trailer doesn’t get butts into theater seats, then I don’t know what will. Based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir. Check out the new trailer after the jump.
It’s interesting to note that The Martian was originally self-published in 2011 after Weir received numerous rejections from publishing houses. It seemed the book wasn’t going to be published the old-fashioned way, so Weir decided to post one chapter at a time on his website. Word spread and fans of the book convinced Weir to create an Amazon Kindle version of the book. Weir set the price at 99 cents, the lowest price allowed by Amazon and the book quickly took off like a rocket, word of mouth can do that, selling 35,000 copies in three months. That was enough for Podium Publishing, who snapped up the audiobook rights and Crown, who snagged the print rights in 2013.
Here’s the synopsis:
When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission.
Doesn’t that look incredibly gorgeous? The sets and costumes and special effects are gonna blow us away in this one.
The Martian hits theater screens on October 2nd with a stellar cast that includes: Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sean Bean, Sabastian Stan, and Donald Glover.
