Before JJ Abrams meandered off to a galaxy far, far away, he did a pretty-darn-tootin’ good job of breathing new life into another classic sci-fi franchise with his 2009 “reboot” (I use this word very begrudgingly these days) of Star Trek. Next year we are due to receive the third film from this new series, the Justin Lin-directed Star Trek Beyond, and other than some vague ramblings about how it’s going to be alternatively “less Trek-y” but also somehow harken back to the classic 1960 series’ original roots, not much is known about the particulars of the film. Today, however, we finally got a decent look at some actual filming footage; while Paramount has been swift in it’s work to remove the video from the internet, we do have a good amount of still photos taken from the video – view them while supplies last!
Set against a massive green screen that likely indicates the scene will take place on an alien planet of some type, we see Kirk (Chris Pine), Scotty (Simon Pegg, also one of the co-writers of the film), Chekhov (Anton Yelchin), and a name-unknown alien (Sofia Boutella, most recently seen by movie-goers in Kingsman: The Secret Service). The crew over at Screen Crush has a Runabout-load of more pictures, so feel free to click here to wander over there and check ’em out. A few of my favorites are posted below; for now, we’ll have to wait to get the full details of this scene and the movie on the whole until it opens on July 8, 2016. Until then, I have to work hard to find out where I can get me one of those sweet, sweet Starfleet utility jackets!
