If you’ve ever read a comic book then you know that death never means forever. (Unless you’re Uncle Ben, am I right? Too soon?) Anyway, it seems that the slack work of the Grim Reaper when it comes to the superhuman will be on display in the upcoming DC Comics adaptation Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Were you a fan of Michael Shannon‘s General Zod? Well, good news, he will appear in Dawn of Justice in some capacity, but he’ll be a little different. Not just alive, but with brand new appendages that make turning doorknobs a little more, shall we say, problematic. What do we mean? Think Penguin from Batman Returns.
While talking to Vulture about his new film 99 Homes, Zod himself related a story about his time on the set of the proto-Justice League sequel to Man of Steel. The centerpiece of the story is that apparently, in the afterlife, Zod grew flippers where his hands should be. Say whaaaaaaaaat? We’ll let him explain.
I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where the fuck is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!’
Can’t get out of the porta-potty because you can’t use your flipper hands? How embarrassing. But at least Shannon took it all in stride. Now, about those flipper hands. What the deuce? Does Zod come back and have fish powers? If I were a betting man, I’d say that the flipper hands is probably part of some kind of nightmare on the part of Clark (Henry Cavill) who might have some seriously bad feelings and regret about having to be forced to kill his fellow Kryptonian. Or maybe there’s some mysterious Aquaman/Zod connection we don’t know about…
I suppose the mystery will be solved with absolute certainty when Batman V. Superman is released in March.
