There’s always two sides to every story, at least that’s what they say. It appears that J. Matthew Turner  is one of those people who believe that old saying, and he decided to put together a video to illustrate his belief that Daniel LaRusso is in fact the real bully of The Karate Kid. That’s right, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) of the Cobra Kai dojo is the one getting picked on, not Ralph Macchio.

You might remember that How I Met Your Mother‘s Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) held this same belief.

Barney does have some seriously warped views about the world so his reaction to The Karate Kid is kind of expected and it’s easy to chalk it up to his twisted world view, but what if he’s right?

This new video does takes each of those moments from the film to illustrate how Daniel-san escalated each encounter, giving Johnny no choice in how he could react.

I gotta say that of course this is all a crock of shit, we all know Johnny is the bully, but it is fun to try and understand this other angle. I was going to try to pass it off, turn to examining another bully/villain and suddenly have that villain also be the real victim, but I am sure someone else has or is currently doing that very thing and I am just not up to it today after having my world rocked by this video.

What do you think? Which side would Judge Judy rule for?

Now you could also take a listen to Patton Oswalt‘s version of the Summer of Johnny.
