Patrick-Stewart-gag-reel-800x473

There have been plenty of Starfleet captains on television and the big screen: Captain Kirk (William Shatner), Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), and Captain Archer (Scott Bakula). Of course the best has to have been Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). (*Insert Nerd Fight Here.) It’s been 21 years since Stewart, one of the most iconic of those starship captains, last appeared on television, and 13 years since we saw him on the big screen. Now Stewart opens the door on a chance that we may see him again…that is if the stars align just the way we want them to.

In a recent interview with IGN regarding his new series Blunt Talk, Patrick Stewart was asked if he would ever be up for taking on the role of Captain Picard once again. He had this to say,

It’s possible. I think it’s unlikely. But it’s possible. The series wrapped over 25 years ago and we’ve got a rather elderly Captain Picard now. So I don’t know. It would be… it could be entertaining.

This takes me back to all of the times we’ve heard Michael Dorn talk about a possible Star Trek series coming back to life. In his series, we’d explore more about the character Worf. Although, I can’t understand why people would want to see more of him. I mean, he was also on Deep Space Nine. However, if it meant there would be a chance to see Captain Picard again, I would be totally behind it.

The real question is what kind of a Picard would we see if he ever reprises his role? People always talk about how cool it would be to have an Admiral Picard. I have to agree. For the sake of argument, I’ll be happy seeing an Ambassador Picard – similar to the one we got during the TNG series finale, but not as crazy and senile.

Wildly enough, I think a series about Picard as a Starfleet Academy teacher would be interesting. He wouldn’t be the star, but we would follow the life of one of his students, and he would be there to instill wisdom every time he got into a bad situation. Although, that may have been done already…

Now this isn’t set in stone yet, but what do you think? What do you think Captain Picard has been doing since we last saw him? What do you think he’s doing now?
