Ubisoft‘s Assassin’s Creed movie is finally getting production rolling and thanks to Yahoo we’ve got a first look at Michael Fassbender in costume as Callum Lynch, descendant of a long line of members of a secret society of assassins. Don’t worry dedicated gamer, you’re memory isn’t failing you, Callum was not a character in any of the Assassin’s Creed games. The name was created for the movie, but I imagine it might find its way into the next video game.
That’s enough chit-chat though, let’s get to the first look!
I’ve got to say that director Justin Kurzel, and his costuming team are doing a bang up job. That costume certainly captures that Assassin’s Creed spirit. Here’s the synopsis:
Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.
Joining Fassbender in the Assassin’s Creed cast are Marion Cotillard (Inception, Macbeth), Michael Kenneth Williams (12 Years a Slave, The Road) and Ariane Labed (The Lobster). It’s interesting to note that Fasssbender and Cotillard just worked with director Kurzel on Macbeth which hits theaters this December.
Principal photography ramps up next Monday so we should start seeing some around the set type pictures surfacing on the Internet. Considering that the production will be shooting in Spain, London, and Malta, there’s sure to be fans snapping some on set action for the rest of us.
There’s still well over a year to go until Assassin’s Creed hits theater screens on December 21st, 2016.
